Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP Associate Mary Pennisi named Deputy Chair of GlamourGals Advisory Board
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 9, 2014
Mary Pennisi became involved with GlamourGals after working on pro bono projects at her law firm, which provided legal assistance to women and children in need.
Mary joins GlamourGals Chairwoman Allison Hyers as the Deputy Chair of GlamourGals, a non-profit organization that aims to inspire and organize teens to provide ongoing companionship and complimentary beauty makeovers to elderly women living in senior homes.
Mary is currently an associate in the Litigation Practice of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. Her practice focuses on commercial and securities litigation, international disputes, and civil enforcement actions and investigations by securities regulators. At Morgan Lewis, Mary is committed to providing pro bono legal advice to women, particularly survivors of domestic violence and commercial sex trafficking.
Mary’s devotion to providing women with ample legal advice nourishes her enthusiasm and dedication to the GlamourGals mission. Her previous work with a multi-generational initiative at the United Nations gave her the opportunity to observe the great value in bringing women of different generations together to collaborate on a common cause.
She shares, “GlamourGals’ mission immediately appealed to me because it offers truly unique opportunities to serve women in senior homes, a population that is too frequently neglected, and facilitates multi-generational experiences that are priceless for both the women and young volunteers. I greatly admire how GG builds such strong multi-generational connections over a common interest and inspires young women to become leaders and make a difference in others’ lives. "
As the organization’s new Deputy Chair, Mary is responsible for corresponding with the GG staff on program updates, acts as an ambassador representing the advisory board at events, assisting in communications with the board, vetting potential advisory board members and welcoming new members to the board.
GlamourGals’ volunteers take pride in providing color, conversation and compassion to elderly women living in senior homes throughout the nation. Mary believes that this form of service is an innovative mechanism for empowering women. She shares, “While the women enjoy companionship and makeovers, the volunteers gain an entirely new perspective of the world, which only women with so much life experience and wisdom can provide. I am thoroughly amazed by the creative way in which GG facilitates such multi-generational conversations and simultaneously empowers women of all ages.”
Mary believes the necessity of GG is simple: It’s a beautiful connection that allows seniors to experience the compassion of our 1400 trailblazing volunteers.
GlamourGals is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit which inspires and organizes teens to provide ongoing companionship and complimentary beauty makeovers to women living in senior homes since 2000. GlamourGals has 74 chapters across the country that engage over 1,400 teen volunteers to serve more than 2,000 senior women in 14 states. Oprah Winfrey, “The New York Times,” the New York Yankees and the Saturday “Early Show” on CBS have all commended the GlamourGals program.
The GlamourGals Advisory Board consists of 20+ individuals who provide advice, network and resources to the organization. This board is not the legal board but actively helps grow and facilitate the GG program.
