Making an Impact Through Makeovers

Aqilah R., Public Relations Officer of the Benjamin N. Cardozo chapter, shares meaningful moments from her chapter’s recent makeover.

Recently, we had our Valentine’s Day nursing home visit at Ozanam. I was so happy to see all the familiar faces once again, and it makes me happy knowing that the seniors enjoy us coming to paint their nails. I first started with Blanche, a senior who has come to every single GlamourGals visit. I painted her nails green, since it is her favorite color. I met Jane, a lovely woman who told me all about her family and her time at the Nursing Home. I also met Elaine Shine, who quite literally made the room brighter with her presence. While I didn't do her nails, I helped escort her to the elevator. There, she told me about her career as a high school English teacher, as well as her family members who once stayed at the same nursing home. Speaking with her made me feel so happy and warm inside, since she kept reiterating that she is so thankful for GG and all that it does. It warms my heart to know that we are truly making a difference in their lives.
