Cherishing Memories from Makeovers

Alondra M., a volunteer at the Bay Port High School GlamourGals chapter, details a specific GlamourGals event that helped her realize the importance of human company.

Ever since I joined GlamourGals last year, I have enjoyed seeing the impact my cards and involvement has had in my community. Although I have not had much experience with seniors in person yet, the Sting Cancer festival that took place in our school made me realize the impact we can make. On that day, I painted the nails of kids with their siblings, friends, parents, and even grandparents. It was very nice seeing the way the families here bonded over nail painting. I feel like spending quality time makes a huge difference when it comes to ending senior isolation. With today being such a busy and stressful time for many of us, making these efforts can say a lot about us and our passions. I love making a difference and making people feel like they matter, which is why I joined GlamourGals. A moment I will always remember from the festival has to be when a little girl and her grandma got their nails done at our booth. It was heartwarming the way both of their faces lit up when I was done painting and decorating their nails. Moments, like these, make me realize how everyone deserves to have company and happiness to cherish. With me wanting to be a Child Therapist in the future, my GlamourGals experience exposed me to moments, where I had the opportunity to ensure people felt heard.
