Embracing Leadership and Empowering Others

Brynn A., Commack High School Chapter Vice President, learned to embrace her position and motivated other volunteers to join senior home visits and feel inspired and empowered.

As Vice President for our 2023 GlamourGals chapter, I had a fantastic year planning and participating in our senior-home visits and making 2x more crafts/cards this year to send to the seniors. Last year, we were not able to visit many senior homes, but I am ecstatic that this year I was able to take part in organizing 4 senior home visits and student-run events! The seniors at every visit simply loved getting their nails done and talking with our volunteers, motivating me further to put my utmost effort into organizing events like this for our chapter. I loved coming up with crafts to make and planning the club meetings with the other officers, because I know that these small deeds put a smile on a senior’s face. I made it my job to encourage members to give up a bit of their time and sign up for at least one of our senior home visits. I made sure to let them know how interacting with seniors has made a difference in my life, as I want others to feel inspired to participate.

My GG experience as both a member and a leader for my chapter has impacted me in many ways. It has shaped me into a leader and developed my individual qualities. I have been a part of GlamourGals for 3 years, 2 of those years I have been an officer who participated in every meeting and senior home visit. As a treasurer, I helped to plan each meeting, visit, and school event for our chapter and managed donations and purchase orders. I developed leadership skills through my involvement in the events, as I played a role in leading the members and being there when they needed my help. As Vice President this year, my leadership experience increased substantially. I helped our President directly and guided and led our officer board. I’ve gained experience in helping to run a club of 40+ active members, distributing roles to our officers, planning events, fundraising, and working with my club advisor, our club president, fellow officers, and members to ensure this year made an impact on seniors in our community!
