Susan Schulz Wuornos (she/her/hers) is a content strategy consultant for a variety of clients, including consumer & retail brands, publishing, and finance. Earlier in her career, she was a magazine editor for popular publications such as Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, and CosmoGirl!, which was where she first met Rachel Doyle—the first-ever “CosmoGirl! of the Year”—and became involved with GlamourGals. Susan is passionate about the GlamourGals mission to end elder loneliness and is inspired each year by the young volunteers who tirelessly work to achieve it!

About GlamourGals, Susan says:

“When I first met Rachel Doyle, it was a few months after she'd been given the CosmoGirl! of the Year award. She was following up with the editors of the magazine to give us updates on GG. I took her to lunch and hearing her talk about GG, I knew this wasn't just a short term thing for her—Rachel was dedicated to GG and had big plans for it, even when she was just beginning college. I knew I wanted to help her in any way I could. Now, almost 20 years after that first meeting, I'm still here.

I have so many memorable moments, but a favorite is hearing Rosalie speak just over a year ago at the Glammys, attending a makeover with one of the Brooklyn chapters, seeing Sara Blakely of Spanx inspire the volunteers with her speech at the first-ever GLTI at the Bobbi Brown makeup studio in NYC, taking the summer 2019 interns to lunch and being inspired by their career pursuits... I have been privileged to be a part of so many aspects of this organization over the years and the memories are so vivid it's hard to believe some of them took place so many years ago.

It was important to me at first because I loved that young women who might have been shy or had low self-esteem could be transformed into leaders through their experiences volunteering for the program. Over the years, the elder loneliness aspect of GG's mission became more vivid for me as I watched my own elderly aunt decline and tell me how lonely she was in the nursing home. The GG volunteers are able to bring brightness to the lives of so many whose days are filled with the darkness of that awful loneliness—it's a profound act.

If you have a senior in your life, the importance of GG is clear. Please join us and support us in any way you can!”
