An excerpt from 2019 Illuminate Spotlight Award Winner Erika Engelson’s speech:

I first got involved with GlamourGals back in 2012 when I went to an event and saw Rachel speak, and I was immediately drawn to the cause. A few weeks later I went to a makeover in Brooklyn, and I witnessed first-hand that instant and amazing connection between the students and the seniors. It literally brought tears to my eyes. I had been to a nursing home as a teenager to visit my grandmother and when I was there I saw the total loneliness on the people’s faces. People didn’t have any visitors. If there would have been a GlamourGals organization in Florida at that time, maybe there could have been someone to visit my grandmother a little bit more.
