Making a Difference During the Holiday Season

Juliet H., President of the Rutgers University Chapter, reflects on how volunteers are bringing joy to isolated seniors this holiday season with homemade My Dear Friend cards.

The holidays can be a tough time for lots of people. It can be especially tough for those that can't be around loved ones, whether that's due to a loss, time, or distance. It was so touching for me to see how many of our volunteers want to show up for our seniors. How many busy college students willingly take the time out of their midterm season to sit down and color in a hand turkey? We want to make our seniors feel appreciated, loved, and most importantly seen. On our last visit, I noticed one senior still carries her My Dear Friend card from last Christmas in her wheelchair. I think so often that we don't realize how much of a difference we can make in someone's life, simply by being kind!
