2021 Glammy Scholarship Winner: Rebecca Altholz

Bronx, NY, May 24, 2021 — SAR High School senior Rebecca Altholz is one of five teens across the country to receive the $1,000 Glammy Scholarship Award. The scholarship, awarded by the GlamourGals Foundation, was presented to Altholz at the 17th Annual Glammy Scholarship Awards, held virtually on May 22.

GlamourGals Foundation, a nonprofit that inspires and organizes teens to combat elder isolation through one-on-one makeovers and manicures at senior homes, grants scholarships to exemplary volunteers within the organization. Because of the pandemic, GlamourGals now operates virtually. Altholz, who will be attending Tufts University with a major in Child Study and Human Development, went above and beyond as the president of her chapter, hosting virtual events as relief for seniors at The Hebrew Home at Riverdale to alleviate the stress of faculty and students at SAR whom have family there and are unable to visit.

Initially interested in becoming a journalist, Altholz later recognized that she “would rather work and support kids and have a career that helped people hands-on than write for a living” as her engagement with her local community grew to an ongoing commitment to empowering seniors and children. As president of the SAR GlamourGals chapter, Altholz took initiative and created a friendly environment for her peers to encourage engagement. Following her active participation with GlamourGals, Altholz took on other leadership positions and stepped outside of her comfort zone.

“GlamourGals has spurred my interest in leading and supporting, qualities that will prepare me to better the world and my community,” said Altholz as she reflects on her experiences propelled by her involvement with GlamourGals.
