“The Power of Red Lipstick”
I love watching the women at these nursing homes come out of their shell and absolutely light up when we enter the facility. In the same way, I love watching my best friends grow in their passion and dedication to this organization that I am so proud to be a part of.
We have experienced several memorable moments in the nursing home, but the one that stands out most to me is the first time we went. Initially, the seniors only wanted their nails done. After we finished painting their nails they said, “maybe just a little blush.” Before the night was over, we had bright red lipstick on all of them! They looked fabulous!
I remember one of the ladies looking at herself in the mirror and said, “I can’t remember the last time someone did my makeup, or the last time I felt this good about myself.”
They thanked us over, and over. The most touching moment was when the makeovers were finished, and they just wanted to sit. It was heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. They told us several times how lonely they are, and how much it means that girls come in and visit.
I’m blessed to be a part of something that brings so much joy to their lives.
