Oustanding Volunteer Janice Hur Wins $1,000 College Scholarship for work with GlamourGals

New York, NY (May 13, 2015) - Congratulations to all Glammy Scholarship Award Winners who will be honored at the Glammy Scholarship Awards on May 30th at the JW Marriott Essex House in New York City. This year’s Glammy Scholarship Award for Chapter Treasurer winner is:

Janice Hur, Island Trees High School, Levittown, NY.

“GlamourGals is so important to me because I believe it is the youth’s responsibility to support the elderly population of America,” Janice writes about GlamourGals.

Carly Roman, Chapter President, Gloria DeLeon GlamourGals at The University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA.

About GlamourGals: GlamourGals is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which inspires and organizes teens to provide ongoing companionship and complimentary beauty makeovers to women living in senior homes since 2000. GlamourGals has over 90 chapters across the country that engages over 1,300 teen volunteers to serve more than 2,500 senior women in 18 states.

In July of 2014 GlamourGals, Beauticontrol, and the W.H.O. (Women Helping Others) Foundation launched a strategic partnership. The W.H.O. Foundation awarded a $150,000 grant to GlamourGals to extend their reach in the fight against elder loneliness by enabling GlamourGals to open 30 additional chapters across the country. Beauticontrol generously donated cosmetics to the chapters so that volunteers could provide complimentary beauty makeovers to women in their local senior homes.

The Daniel and Lucille Valerio Outstanding Volunteer Award is a $1,000 scholarship for a high school senior GG volunteer for her impact on the life of a senior. It is judged and provided by Lou Valerio of Progressive Financial Services.

The College Chapter Glammy Award is a $500 scholarship for a current college GG volunteer and $500 for her college chapter to recognize an inspiring and innovative programming idea to implement with her chapter’s senior home. The award is provided by the 2015 Inspiration Glammy Award Winner, Jenna Segal, lead producer of Gigi on Broadway.
