GlamourGals is the best (and most fun) way for younger people in our community to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. We have made connections with people who we otherwise wouldn’t have known, and discovered the true importance of interacting with other human beings. In a world where technology is the prominent way to communicate, GlamourGals shows us that face-to-face conversations can mean more than we know.
I always look forward to visiting our friends at the senior home because they truly bring joy to my life. Through GlamourGals, I learned that volunteering is not about how many hours I can obtain; it is about making a difference in someone else’s life. It is about learning people’s names, asking about their lives, and making them smile. GlamourGals allows us to engage in meaningful conversation, meet new friends, and create significant moments. When we visit with the seniors and see how genuinely happy they are, we know that this is more important than anything.
Prior to creating our chapter of GlamourGals, I was extremely introverted. Becoming the president of a GlamourGals chapter has showed me that the world is not as overwhelming when you relate to other people. When I was younger, I never thought I would be majoring in public relations; however, through volunteering, I have learned that communicating with others is a crucial aspect of life and the best skill I could have is knowing how to connect with someone.
It is clear to me now that creating meaningful bonds with others is what I want to do with my life. GlamourGals has created a difference in my own attitude, personality, and perspective. I am now more gregarious, proactive, and open-minded than I have ever been before because of the experiences I've had. I will continue to use the skills I’ve learned as president of a GlamourGals chapter for the rest of my life.
