My life has been changed by GlamourGals…
Skyler, volunteer from New Jersey, has felt the importance of the GlamourGals visits for years and wants to share that with younger girls.
My life has been changed by GlamourGals. GlamourGals has inspired me in so many ways. Looking back at my journey at GlamourGals I realize how much I’ve learned since seventh grade. I’ve learned how to communicate with the elderly in a way that is effective. I’ve also learned to appreciate friendships more. Some of my favorite memories are from my middle school years. Painting nails and getting my nails done with my mom has always been something that we have done together as a bonding exercise. So doing that in the GlamourGals visits came natural to me. I think it’s a very positive thing for me to go the visits because it cheers me up. And I know if it cheers me up, it must cheer the seniors up too. Even though nursing homes can be bleak we can brighten their days and as a result, our days are brightened too.
Because I was at PR officer last year my job was to run the VVA Instagram . I’ve always loved Instagram because of the cute photos and inspiring posts and all the pictures that my school posts. I’ve been keeping people up-to-date with our visits and it was really fun to post things each month and let people know all the great work our chapter is doing.
The advice I would give to girls thinking about joining about Glamour Gals is to definitely join! I think it is just an overall great thing to be a part of. I think the most rewarding part of being a part of the Executive Board is the fact I get to be more involved in the process. Going to a nursing home can sometimes be a challenging thing to do. It can be hard to know how to talk to someone who has short term memory. But it is such a honorable thing to talk to the elderly because they need people to cheer them up, and I am honored to have that responsibility.
