"You were wonderful with me." Catherine's Story

"[At a makeover] I realized [the resident I was speaking to] was part deaf and couldn't fully understand what I was saying to her. I noticed she had a notepad in her hand and I asked her if I could use it. During our talk we realized that she and I both grew up in [the same town]. Just as I was about to go, she pulled me aside and said, 'You were wonderful with me. I know it is very hard to speak to me and that is why many people who visit don't talk with me. You have a wonderful gift.' This experience helped me understand what my goal in life will be. I will be going to college next year to study speech pathology/audiology, so that I can help the people in the community who have a trouble communicating. I thank Margaret and her wonderful compliment because she set the path for my life, and I will always remember her kindness and patience."

My life has been changed by GG, Shannon

"My life has been changed by GlamourGals and my favorite resident, Ray. He's the most energetic, funniest, happiest person I've ever met. He only sings on special occasions, like when his dinner is done. He's the most humorous senior I know. Spending time with him makes you appreciate things a little bit more."

Where Are They Now?

Each week, 1600 GlamourGals volunteers go out and devote their time to providing companionship to the elderly living in senior homes. GG President, Tammy Tran is a junior at Lawrence University in Wisconsin and has been with the program since she was in high school. I recently caught up with Tammy to discuss what GlamourGals has meant to her.

Changing Lives in Forest Hills

glamgals2“This past weekend was my first event at Forest View. Walking in with all the girls and looking around at the elderly made me feel nervous. I wasn't sure how to initiate the conversation. Sandeep had the great idea of splitting into two's. With another girl by my side it made breaking the ice easier. The woman I met was so sweet and had no problem sharing her story. Going home that day I felt different. It felt good to be a part of GlamourGals and do something nice for these ladies.” ~Priya, Co-President
