The Little Moments

Sometimes when we go to Riverview, there are silly little things that happen during our visit that tend to make me smile a little more. Today when we went to visit, Lois, one of our returning residents, saw us and said her famous line: "These girls are looking hot to trot!" Every time Lois talks about us or herself getting a manicure, she never fails to say she is too hot to trot. It always makes me smile! We had a new resident come and join us today to get a manicure and she was from Hungary. She spent an hour talking to two of our volunteers about life in Hungary and the things she loved about the Hungarian culture. One of the women whose nails I did asked me how old she was. She couldn't remember, but she knew that she was born in 1926 so I told her that she would be 91 then. She then replied, "Oh who wants to do arithmetic anyway with so many pretty girls around?" I got to talking to her more and she went on to tell me about how her and her husband met and how scared she was experiencing war in her lifetime. When I told her we were about to leave, she asked me to walk her back to her room. I did, and when we parted she asked what my name was again so she could go and write it down so she'll always remember it. It's the little moments like these that are a constant reminder of why I love GlamourGals.
