FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK, NY (April 29, 2013) – GlamourGals Foundation (GG) is hosting the Glammy Scholarship Awards on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at NASDAQ, 4 Times Square, New York, NY 10036. The foundation will present the Inspiration Glammy award to the New York Yankees and scholarships to chapter president Kayla Paz, co-president Marialaina Nissenbaum and rally girl Rosa Cuppari. Sherouk Youssef is the winner of the Daniel and Lucille Valerio Outstanding Volunteer Award. Christine C. Quinn, speaker of The New York City Council, will be attending and presenting a Glammy Scholarship award.
This is the second year GG is presenting scholarships to three volunteers to celebrate their dedication to helping seniors in their communities. The Daniel and Lucille Valerio Outstanding Volunteer Award was founded by executive board member Lou Valerio in 2011 to honor his parents. The Glammy Scholarship Awards are held to share the achievements of these volunteers and to inspire supporters.
The 2013 Inspiration Glammy winner, the New York Yankees, took part in a GG makeover in the Bronx, NY, in June 2012, during their HOPE (Helping Others Persevere and Excel) Week.
"We are very grateful the GlamourGals have chosen to honor the Yankees at the Glammy Awards," said Jason Latimer, New York Yankees assistant director, media and player relations. "The hands-on interaction the GlamourGals provide to the teenagers in their programs, as well as the senior citizens in communities around the nation, is indispensable. Congratulations to all the winners who have displayed the utmost character, both in the classroom and in their community."
The Inspiration Glammy is the most prestigious award presented by GlamourGals to influential individuals in entertainment and business, whose work has positively shaped our communities. Past awardees include Sheila Johnson, co-founder of Black Entertainment Television, Tim Gunn, co-host of Project Runway, Nikki Blonsky, actress, Robert Verdi, stylist and star of The Robert Verdi Show, Lauren Ruotolo, author of Unstoppable in Stilettos and director of entertainment promotions at Hearst Magazines, and Jeremy Bloom, former NFL player and founder of the Wish of a Lifetime Foundation.
GlamourGals is thrilled to have City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn presenting at the Glammys.
"I want to congratulate the awardees and thank them for their tremendous volunteer efforts," said Quinn. "GlamourGals' volunteers foster self-esteem and mutual respect among the elderly and the youth. Today's honorees – including my beloved New York Yankees – have, by their commitment to the community and giving back to others, made things a little better, a little brighter in New York City and beyond. The world needs more people like them!"
GlamourGals will award three (3), $1000 scholarships to three teen volunteers at the ceremony on May 4. Official GlamourGals leaders (presidents, co-presidents and rally girls) nationwide are encouraged to apply for one of the three scholarships.
Aericka Heavens is an advisory board member and the chairperson for the 2013 Glammy Scholarship Awards. She helped to secure the location at NASDAQ.
"It is so important to honor GG volunteers and their selfless dedication to GG's mission," said Aericka, who has been an advisory board member since 2010. "We are so proud that the New York Yankees organization has chosen to join us in doing so."
